Traditional Dutch bank savings account
Every EU-licensed bank belongs to a national deposit guarantee scheme that covers €100,000 per person, per bank, if the bank fails. In the Netherlands this is run by De Nederlandsche Bank; German banks fall under BaFin's scheme and Revolut's EU entity under the Lithuanian scheme. Cover is per licence, not per account, so two accounts at the same bank share one €100,000 limit — spreading larger balances across banks is the standard way to stay fully protected.
Two accounts advertising 3.00% do not pay the same amount. Interest credited daily immediately begins earning interest, monthly crediting does so twelve times a year, and an annual payout compounds only once. The projection tool on this page applies each provider's actual payout frequency, so the numbers you compare are effective outcomes rather than headline rates.
Dutch residents declare savings in Box 3. A tax-free allowance applies per person (doubled with a fiscal partner), and above it the Belastingdienst applies a low deemed return for bank savings and a much higher one for investments. Because the deemed return for savings tracks market rates closely, a high-yield account usually still leaves you ahead after tax — run your own figures in the Box 3 calculator.
